Diabetic Foot Care & Advice
If you are diabetic, you are more susceptible to complications such as ulceration of the foot or leg therefore receiving regular foot care is a sensible way monitor any possible change in foot health. Advice is given when required regarding hosiery, footwear and the problems which can arise if incorrect.

Removal/Maintenance of Corns & Callus
Friction and mechanical stress caused by ill-fitting shoes and/or an abnormal walk. It often appears as thickened, yellow skin. Debridement with a scalpel followed by filing and regular maintenance with specific creams (if required) would relieve you of any pain this may cause.
There are several types of corn which when pressed can cause varying degrees of discomfort. It is not advised to use medicated corn plasters are they contain salicylic acid and if they touch normal skin, can cause skin breakdown. (And most definitely not for diabetics)

Fungal Infections
Also know as Athletes Foot, it can be found on the bottom and/or sides of the foot as well as between the toes, presenting as itchy, red, sore, cracked, or flaky skin.

Nails
Known as onychomycosis. Nails may show from white to dark green discolouring, as well as crumbling, thick or smelly.
We can discuss the best way for forward for you and how best to treat.

Cracked Heels
They are often caused by wearing thinly soled shoes or walking barefoot so there isn’t any protection between the bottom of the feet and the ground. Often the best way to treat is to debride with a scalpel, file and use a specific cream to moisturise and delay the regrowth of skin. If the cracks are very deep, they can be reduced by other methods.

Thickened Nails
They are often caused by trauma, fungal infections or medication and can be painful as they cause extra pressure when walking. I can thin the nails down significantly either by scalpel, file or burr.

Verrucae Treatment
The human HPV virus invades the skin through abrasions in the skin often at a gym or the swimming baths. Verrucae vary in their appearance. It is advised that if they do not trouble you, to leave alone as they often disappear as quickly as they appeared.
If painful and troublesome, I offer a few treatments of which I have had an 80% success rate of removal.
